Exploring Home Sharing in Clallam County: Is It Right for You?
Attend an Informational Session on June 3rd to Address Your Questions and Concerns
Previous guest writer Nancy Stephanz shared information about an upcoming informational meeting, set for June 3rd at 6pm. The meeting will take place at the Port Angeles library, located at 2210 S Peabody St, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
Whether you’re excited to move forward with renting a room, looking to rent a room locally, or just curious about the program and have questions, we encourage you to attend.
Many of the comments on the original post (Is Home Sharing the Answer to Clallam County's Affordable Housing Crisis?) expressed both interest and some legitimate concerns about this sort of a program. This is a great opportunity to learn more and hopefully address some of the concerns that were shared, chief among them:
What are the risks if you enter into a rental agreement with someone who doesn’t work out?
How would applicants be screened for safety and compatibility?
What protections are there for homeowners?
I’ve shared my own success renting rooms out in my home, and since publishing the article I’ve heard many stories from others who have had success; whether that be financial success, or even long lasting friendships and companionship. To be fair, I’ve also heard some stories (and experienced them myself) when the situation was not a positive one. I don’t advocate anyone do something to put themselves at risk or in danger, and I think we need to be careful. And at the same time I think it’s a worthwhile discussion to have.
I hope you’ll join us at this event!
A reminder Around Our Community Engagement and Comment Policy
Active dialogue and engagement with our readers is crucial. Writers on this platform are encouraged—and expected—to revisit their articles regularly, responding thoughtfully to readers’ questions and concerns.
We want conversations, not shouting matches. Therefore, comments will be reviewed regularly and are expected to adhere to these foundational guidelines:
Stay on Topic: Comments must relate directly to the article.
Respectfulness: Every comment should demonstrate respect toward authors, website management, and fellow commenters. Bullying, name-calling, or disrespectful behaviors will not be tolerated.
Constructive Dialogue: Political grandstanding is unwelcome here. While some discussions naturally involve political elements, the goal is to enhance understanding, clarify perspectives, and contribute constructively.
No Personal Attacks: As Theodore Roosevelt wisely said, it's the person who is "actually in the arena" who deserves our respect. Criticism is welcome, but personal attacks are not.
Transparency: Any new guidelines needed as this platform evolves will prioritize civility, decency, and productive dialogue.
